posted 03/24/2008 by nTelos
nTelos Web Sites Privacy Policy

nTelos, Inc. is strongly committed to protecting the privacy of its online user community. The intent of this privacy policy is to detail the information nTelos may gather about individuals who visit nTelos Web sites, how the information is used, and nTelos’ disclosure practices. Please note that this policy applies only to nTelos sites, and not to the Web sites of other companies or organizations to which we provide links or to any software that may be downloaded from nTelos sites.

User Information
User information is collected when a user visits a nTelos Web site. nTelos analyzes the information to examine trends, administer the site, track user's movement in the aggregate, and gather broad demographic information for aggregate use. The purpose of collection is to improve the overall quality of the online experience. Anonymous user information collected includes user’s IP address, referral data, and browser and platform type. The nTelos site assigns an anonymous ID number to user requests and links the following additional data to that number: date and time of visit, searched terms, and clicked links. Like most standard servers, log files are used to collect and store anonymous user information. nTelos Web sites do not require users to share personally-identifiable information, such as name or email address. nTelos sites may request personally-identifiable individual user information in addition to the anonymous information described above, such as contact information (name, email address, shipping address, zip code or other), or demographic information (age, gender, occupation, household income, or other). nTelos will not use or disclose user information except as described in this privacy policy and in the Privacy Notice to nTelos subscribers, available online at http://www.ntelos.com/wireless/1pdfs/NTELOSPrivacyNotice.pdf.

Individual User information may be collected in the following ways: Surveys or Contests.

Surveys or contests may be conducted on the nTelos Web sites. User participation in surveys or contests is voluntary; therefore, the user chooses whether or not to disclose individual user information. In addition to the uses described above, contest or survey information may be shared with the contest or survey sponsors to notify the winners and to award prizes. Survey information may be used for purposes of monitoring or improving the use and satisfaction of nTelos sites. An intermediary may be used to conduct surveys or contests. Intermediary companies may use collected user information to assist in communication with users about offers. Such intermediary third parties do not have nTelos’ permission to use personally-identifiable information for any secondary purpose.

Directory Services. nTelos Web sites offers certain personalization services (i.e., community sites) that enable users to submit a geographic location, allowing the site to “remember” the location for return visits.

Correspondence. nTelos may keep record of correspondence from and to any user.

Third Party Information Gathering. nTelos Web sites may include content and ads from third parties that may perform user activity tracking other than that described herein. For more information about each third party content provider, cookies, and how to "opt-out,” please refer to such third party advertiser's privacy policy. nTelos’ sites contain links to Web sites owned, hosted, and managed by other entities. nTelos is not responsible for the privacy practices of other entities. Users should read the privacy statements of each Web site visited, especially any site that collects personally identifiable information. nTelos’ privacy policies apply solely to nTelos-hosted sites.

Cookies. A cookie is a small data file that a Web site may send to a user’s browser and which may then be stored on the user’s system. nTelos may set and access nTelos’ or partner cookies on a user’s computer. Either session cookies or persistent cookies may be in use. Session cookies terminate once the user closes the browser. Persistent cookies are small text files stored on the user’s hard drive for an extended and predetermined period of time. Persistent cookies can be removed by following Internet browser directions. We also may use "action tags" to assist in delivering the cookie which allow compilation of statistics and other data on an aggregate basis by embedding a random ID number on each user's browser.

Sharing
nTelos makes every effort to preserve user privacy. However, when required by law, nTelos will disclose user information to comply with a current judicial proceeding, criminal investigation, court order, or legal process. nTelos
may also share user information when necessary in order to investigate, prevent, or take action regarding illegal activities, suspected fraud, situations involving potential threats to the physical safety of any person, violations of nTelos Web Terms of Use, or as otherwise required by law.

When necessary to improve the user’s online experience, nTelos may share user information with third party service providers who serve ads and/or emails on our behalf. The third party companies may use technologies to measure the effectiveness of ads and/or emails and to study visits behavior.

Mergers or Business Transitions
In the event nTelos goes through a business transition, such as a merger, being acquired by another company, or selling a portion of its assets, users information will, in most instances, be part of the assets transferred.

Notification of Changes
nTelos privacy policy may change without notification. Changes will be posted immediately online for user access. If changes to the privacy policy would create a change in the treatment of personally-identifiable user information from the details specified above, notice of change will be posted on our Web sites for a period of 30 days.

Special Notification with respect to Children's Privacy (Users under the age of 13)

In response to concerns about protecting children's privacy online, Congress enacted the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act of 1998 ("COPPA"), which sets forth rules and procedures governing the ways in which Web sites may collect, use and disclose any personal information for children under the age of 13. In accordance with nTelos’ policy and COPPA regulations, nTelos does not: 1.) Request or knowingly collect personally identifiable information or contact information online or offline from users under 13 years of age; or 2.) Knowingly use or share personal information from users under 13 years of age with any third parties. It is possible that by fraud or deception nTelos may receive information pertaining to children under 13. If nTelos is notified of this, as soon as the information is verified, nTelos will immediately delete the information from our servers.
